Blowout
Grass
Redfieldia flexuosa (photo)
Blowout grass is one of the first plants, aside scurfpea,
to pioneer the sand of dunefield. As the namesake of the sand sheet feature,
the blowout dune, blowout grass survives in small clumps that protect
each other from the desiccating wind. The seeds of blowout grass are a
preferred food source for the kangaroo rat.
