A Canada thistle pushes its flower head (and seeds) above the native grasses west of the dunefield. If the flowers mature, the seeds may be blown further east, closer to areas that have not yet been invaded with this exotic thistle. Not only is Canada thistle an exotic in the United States, but it is not from Canada either. This species is native to Southeast Asia.
