Congratulations on Mr. Mal Fordham’s nomination for the 2006 George B. Hartzog, Jr., Award for Outstanding Individual Volunteer Service. Mr. Fordham’s nomination is well deserved for partnering with REI and creating a series of REI Volunteer Days to spark community interest in Greenbelt Park. During these events, volunteers cleared, resurfaced, rerouted and improved trails, and greatly enhanced visitor enjoyment and safety. Mr. Fordham also secured a $10,000 REI grant that will be presented to the National Park Foundation in order to repair and replace bridges at Greenbelt Park. His efforts have been invaluable to the National Park Service.
