January 2003 Workshop and Expert Panel Meetings

In January 2003 the Mary Orton Company, LLC held two workshops to enable stakeholders to give the Park more detailed and in-depth information about their values and preferences. In addition, two expert panels on some of the important and controversial subjects included in the CRMP were also held. The purpose of the panels was to provide the Park with input from academics, researchers, practitioners, and the like. The dates and times were as follows:

Wednesday, January 29, 2003: Expert Panel #1, 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Subject: Carrying Capacity, Seasonality, and Group Size

Thursday, January 30, 2003: Stakeholder Workshops #1 and #2, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Morning: Spectrum of Recreational Services Offered to the Public
Afternoon: Private River Trip Permit Distribution System

Friday, January 31, 2003: Expert Panel #2, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Subject: Allocation of Recreational Use Among User Groups

All sessions were held in the Governor's Protocol Room on the second floor of the State Capitol Building, 1700 West Washington in downtown Phoenix. The expert panel sessions were also be videoconferenced to a room on the NAU campus in Flagstaff. All sessions were videotaped and the tapes are available to interested persons.
