North Rim Inactive Landfill Closures

Environmental Asssessment
August 24, 2001
- - -

Grand Canyon National Park (GCNP) proposed to close two inactive landfills on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, Coconino County, Arizona. This proposal implemented the intent of the 1995 General Management Plan (GMP) for GCNP by restoring (as close as possible) the landfill sites to natural conditions. Also, this proposal was in accordance with the Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) Subtitle D and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) solid waste regulations. The closure of each landfill complied with RCRA Subtitle D and ADEQ regulations, which is to protect the environment, particularly groundwater resources. Public Comment period for the EA ended 24 September 2001.
