Environmental Assessment/Assessment of Effect

The purpose of this document is to disclose the expected effects to the human environment of various components of the proposed North Rim administration building. The human environment is defined as the natural and physical environment and the relationship of people with that environment. The North Rim administration building is located on the North Rim district of Grand Canyon National Park, in Coconino County, Arizona. The proposal includes the removal of the existing administration building, a trailer, and the construction of a new administration building in the same location. The proposal also includes reconfiguration of the existing parking area. The proposal would result in approximately 1 acre of ground disturbance and is located within the Bright Angel watershed. Public Comment period for the EA/AEF ended June 27, 2003.

Scoping Letter

On November 29, 2000 the National Park Service sent out a Scoping Letter seeking comments on proposed North Rim projects. The purpose of the scoping letter was to describe the initial proposed action for several projects and to solicit comments from those who might have had issues or concerns regarding the proposal before the environmental analysis for the project was begun. Public comment for the Scoping Letter ended January 8, 2001.
