Golden
Spike Offers Full RV Hook Ups For Volunteers
Trailer pads with full RV hookups are
available to volunteers who have a recreational vehicle or trailer
and can volunteer 25 hours per week per person or 40 hours per
couple. Monetary reimbursement is dependent upon annual
regional VIP funds and the number of volunteers working at the park
during the year.
Volunteers will have access to sewer
and electrical hookups at no cost to them. Prior
to actually hooking up, volunteers must get
permission from the Volunteer Coordinator, a
Voluntary Agreement Form will be filled out, and
all expectations of work assignments will be
explained. The length of staying within the park will
be determined prior to actual arrival. The
minimum expectation will be clearly outlined, (at least four
weeks) and lengthy stays should be outlined ahead
of time to accommodate other potential VIPs.
Applications from Volunteers will be accepted throughout
the year and decisions will be made in the
spring. There are currently two camping pads in the
compound area that will be used by RV's, trailers,
or motor homes. One hookup will be
reserved for VIPs who work on the Maintenance
or Engineer's crews, and the other will be for
VIPs who assist with the Ranger or Administration division. However,
VIPs are not limited to working for only
one park division. These two RV hookups are approximately 30 feet
apart, each with a 50 amp electrical hookup and
sewer lines.
Volunteers who are working at the park will be
expected to assist park staff, follow directions,
and assist visitors in a professional and courteous
manner that is consistent with the Park Service's
high standards. Volunteers should also expect to
assist with park visitors after normal hours of
operation. The volunteer's presence should act as a
deterrent for vandalism after hours, however no law
enforcement duties are expected. Past vandalism has
resulted in the park's signs being shot. Minor
incidents of other crimes have occurred by are
extremely rare. If you require any special needs
due to health limitation, please inform the
Volunteer Coordinator ahead of time to assist with
accommodations.
Golden Spike NHS is located at Promontory
Summit, Utah. The park is 32 miles from the nearby community of
Brigham City (pop. 15,600) and 51 miles from the Ogden/Layton area with a combined population of over 200,000
and a full range of amenities and services. Promontory is a high
desert area surrounded by mountains (6,000 feet
height) covered with grasslands, sagebrush and some
juniper trees. High temperatures in the summer
rarely reach over 100 degrees Fahrenheit , and are
usually in the high 80's during the hottest time of
the day. Temperatures drop to about 60 degrees at
night.
Authorization for occupancy of the RV Pads may be given by the Golden
Spike (GOSP) VIP Coordinator, Chief Ranger, or Superintendent. All
occupancy of the pads must be scheduled and coordinated with the VIP
Coordinator. |
