This map outlines the route of the transcontinental railroad through the West. It passed over at least six mountain ranges, spanned countless rivers, crossed six states, and established several cities.
|
The route went from Sacramento, California to Omaha, Nebraska, a distance of 1,776 miles. At Omaha it connected with eastern lines, and in Sacramento the road was quickly linked with rails to San Francisco allowing travel from Atlantic to Pacific. |
