WESTERN MONTANA INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MOOSE
FIRE, Columbia Falls, MT, Sept. 26,
2001
Down but not out.
Last night’s rain cooled down some hot spots in the fire and
today’s higher relative humidity and cloud cover are expected to reduce
fire activity for the next few days.
However, the trend of very low relative humidities and unseasonably
high temperatures is expected to return within a few days. Yesterday, group tree torching and short runs occurred in the
Dutch Creek drainage. The fire continues to move further up Dutch Creek
but is expected to slow as it reaches the rocky areas in the upper basin.
Isolated pockets of unburned fuel continue to flare up and new
smokes are spotted every day. Currently 643 personnel are
assigned to the fire and 6 helicopters continue to assist in cooling down
hot spots and supporting mop up with bucket drops.
Rehabilitation efforts continue on interior fire lines. The information station at North Fork and Camas Creek road intersection is staffed daily. For updated information on
the fire, call the Fire Information Center at 892-8970 or 892-9053.
Up-to-date information, current fire perimeter maps and photos are
available on the Moose Fire web site at http://206.129.89.60/moose. The Flathead National Forest continues to offer bus tours of the fire area. For additional information contact the Flathead National Forest at 758-5204 or 758-5208. ### |
