This video of the Trapper Creek Fire was captured on the Highline Trail near Logan Pass as the fire approached the Going-to-the-Sun Road. The Going-to-the-Sun Road was closed as a precaution, and the fire did eventually cross the road at The Loop.

As the Robert Fire threatened the communities of Apgar, West Glacier, and park headquarters, efforts were taken to stop the encroaching fire. This video is an overview of some of the events and efforts that took place.

Helicopters attacked the Robert Fire with buckets of water taken from the Flathead River as portions of Apgar Mountain burned.

CanadaAir CL-215 airplanes also nicknamed "Ducks", flew over Lake McDonald and scooped water into the belly of the plane. Water was then dumped near the advancing Robert Fire. A plume of smoke from the Camas Drainage can been seen in the horizon.

In an effort to save Apgar Lookout and a repeater used for park communications, retardant was continually dropped on the area.

Controlled "Burnouts" were one of many methods used in controlling the Robert Fire from advancing. Here, Ping Pong Balls filled with fire starting chemicals, are dropped from a helicopter on Apgar Mountain to burn and reduce fuel sources. The horizontal lines of smoke show where the Ping Pong Balls were dropped.

This video was taken at 10:15 p.m. on the foot of Lake McDonald as the Robert Fire advanced on Howe Ridge and Rocky Point. The scene was a spectacular sight as flames were visibile from over a mile away. You will need the latest version of QuickTime to view these videos:

A Burnout was conducted near the Fish Creek Campground and near Kelly Camp in an effort to reduce fuel sources from the advancing Robert Fire. This video was taken across Lake McDonald just past Apgar, and at the boat dock at Lake McDonald Lodge.
