Cracker Lake

This hiker enjoys a view seen by few visitors to the park, but from this vantage point the incredible color of Cracker Lake is visible. Fed by meltwaters from an active glacier, Cracker Lake is filled with minute particles of rock, ground up by the glacier. These tiny particles, suspended in the water, reflect and refract light giving the lake its  deep opalescent color.

Once the scene of a mining boom in the early 1900's, it is now a quiet retreat for hikers and campers to the park.
