Meadows at Fifty Mountain - August 22, 2005

Meadows at Fifty Mountain (922kb)
The Fifty Mountain region is one of Glacier's most impressive areas. The region is named for the 50 high mountain peaks that loom over large and expanse alpine meadows that are often blanketed with colorful splashes of wildflowers during the spring and mid summer. These meadows provide habitat for deer, ground squirrels, and provides bears with food sources such as tubers and other vegetation critical for survival during winter hibernation. Evidence of the 1998 Kootenai Complex Fire can be seen in the campground, and more recently, the 2003 Trapper Fire, as one travels near Granite Park Chalet to and from the campground.
