Ahern Pass - August 21, 2005

Ahern Pass (892kb)
Along the northern Highline Trail almost halfway between Granite Park Chalet and Fifty Mountain campground, is Ahern Pass. While travel over the pass to and from the Belly River Valley is not recommended and dangerous, Ahern Pass served as a winter escape route for the famous Belly River Ranger, Joe Cosley, in the early 1900s.

Looking into the Belly River Valley, Helen Lake can be seen in the foreground, with Elizabeth Lake further in the distance. To the left of the lakes but in the foreground and obstructed from view, are Iceberg Peak and Iceberg Notch. Sitting close to 3,000 feet below this in Many Glacier, lies Iceberg Lake.
