Trail to Hidden Lake - July 26, 2000

The view from Hidden Lake Overlook provides a spectacular example of the power of Ice Age glaciers. This cirque (bowl shaped amphitheater) was carved out by huge glaciers tens of thousands of years ago. Just beyond the ridge in the background lies Sperry Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in the park today. It is tiny compared to the massive ice sheets that sculpted the parks topography.

You never know what you'll find on the trails in the park. Throughout the summer the Glacier Institute conducts classes in and around Glacier National Park. Here, Chris Weiss conducts Geology of Glacier National Park: A Sedimental Journey.

The goats on the hillside above don't seem interested, but people really like these fun and informative courses. For information on this, and other Glacier Institute classes, visit them at the Neighbors and Partners link.
