Black Bear and Grizzly Bear video - July 5, 2003

Black Bears and Grizzly Bears are common in Glacier National Park. While it is rare, bears can be seen from the roadside. The video clips below illustrate that color alone is not a reliable way to identify bears.

Though blonde in color, this is a Black Bear that was filmed in the Many Glacier area next to Sherburne Lake. The long face and nose is a common characteristic in Black Bears.

This Grizzly Bear is dark in color, but the hump in the back and shoulders is a defining feature in Grizzly Bears. This sow and her three cubs were filmed around 9:00pm in St. Mary.
