Iceberg Lake Trail - July 5, 2003

Approaching Iceberg Lake. The lake can be accessed by a moderate 4.5 mile hike from the Iceberg-Ptarmigan trailhead in Many Glacier.

Iceberg Lake, also known as a tarn, resides in a cirque that was carved out long ago by glacial activity. Snowfields seen at the head of the lake are remnants of a glacier that once occupied this basin.

Well into the middle of summer, large chunks of ice can still be seen floating in the cold turquoise water.

Like billowing smoke, clouds from an approaching storm roll over the towering cliffs at Iceberg Lake.

In addition to a host of various wildflowers, Beargrass, a lily native to Glacier, blooms in abundance along the Iceberg Lake trail.

As a storm pushes its way into the Many Glacier valley, rain from dark clouds provides stunning vistas of contrast across the sky.
