St. Mary - June 25, 2006


A lone coyote hunts in the prairie in front of St. Mary Lake and Red Eagle Mountain. Prairies provide great habitat for critters such as mice, ground squirrels, and badgers, and provides a great hunting ground for predators such as coyotes.

Visitors were thrilled to capture a glimpse of this sometimes elusive animal. The view is looking west from the St. Mary Visitor Center.

The surface of St. Mary Lake at the Wild Goose Island Overlook is unusually calm. This location can be very windy, as evident by this weather-worn tree.
