The North Fork in Winter - February 25, 2006

The North Fork in Winter (1.7Mb)
Very few people venture to the North Fork during the winter. Temperatures are often below 0, snow is deep, the wind bitter, and the drive to reach this location is often long, bumpy, and slow going. But visitors who do make the trip to snowshoe and cross country ski have the opportunity to travel in remote locations.

This view shows the Polebridge Ranger Station below, the Inside North Fork Road, vast and wild country, and the contrast of charred trees from the Red Bench Fire next to new growth lodgepole pines in crisp, white snow.
