The "new" pole bridge - February 25, 2006

The "new" pole bridge (1.7Mb)
This winter panorama was taken from the bridge that connects the tiny community of Polebridge to the entrance of Glacier National Park in the North Fork. Prior to the construction of this bridge in 1989, the original log pole bridge spanned the North Fork of the Flathead River for decades before it burned during the 1988 Red Bench Fire. The new bridge was a joint effort between Glacier National Park and Flathead County to incorporate modern and traditional building materials to retain the character of the area.

If you are wondering how Polebridge received its name, chances are, your guess is right.
