- Chaperones traveling with the students are free. The park recommends
1 chaperone per 5 to10 students. However, parents or other relatives
driving separately (not traveling on the bus or school vehicle) with
additional family members will have to pay the entrance fee. The entrance
fee is $4.00 per person age 17 and older (children are free). National Park and Golden Passports are accepted. Teachers and chaperones are responsible for their
students’ conduct while at the park.
- Please arrive prior to the specified time. School groups are scheduled throughout
the day. If a school group arrives late, the program may be shortened
to maintain park scheduling.
- Orientation begins at the Visitor Center.
- Most Parks As Classrooms educational programs are conducted in the
Historic Area. Do not feed or pet the animals. Do not lean or climb
on the rail fences.
- Only restrooms near the Historic Area are in the Visitor Center. Please
use these restrooms from the outside entrance (left side).
- Nature Trail (one mile long) is near the picnic grounds (turn right),
on the way to the Washington burial grounds. Do not wander off the trail.
- Picnic grounds have restrooms that are normally open April to November.
- Potomac River beach (no swimming allowed) is past the Washington burial
grounds, at the end of the road.
- Remember–this is a National Park. All natural and archeological
items are protected including shark’s teeth, shells and pottery
shards. Leave No Trace: take only pictures and leave only footprints.
