Soup Tureen, Canton China, 1710. Acc.#80, Cat. #311. Canton refers to the port from which this ware was shipped. Canton is the location where most of the high-quality overglazed painting for special European orders had been executed. It is characterized by a house, tree, boat, and bridge motif in the center, roughly hatched or scale-decorated, and bordered by a wide band of blue, roughly hatched lines of a slightly darker blue.
