Onion Wine Bottle, Acc.#1347, Cat.#1038. This wine bottle was made in England in 1710. After the wine was consumed, the bottle was put to good use storing milk, ale, or some other type of liquid originating on the plantation. This bottle was recovered from an archeological dig on the southern end of the Memorial House. The original color of the glass bottle is green. The marked look of the surface of the bottle is due to a chemical deterioration of the outside layer of glass forming the patina surface. The bottle is said to have belonged to George Washington's father, Augustine.
