EXTRA, EXTRA CREDIT- Brig. General John B. Gordon from Georgia. On July 1, he found Union General Francis Barlow lying on the battlefield. He had been seriously wounded and appeared to be dying. Gordon gave Barlow water and ordered that he be carried to a nearby house for shelter until the general's wife could get to him. Without Gordon's consideration and compassion, Barlow would never have survived.
