Performance Task

FIRST - Prior Knowledge - The student will pencil sketch a picture of a Frontier Military Fort. SECOND - After viewing several Kansas Frontier Forts the student will compare/contrast Fort Scott and another Kansas Frontier Fort either by fort design or fort purpose using a Venn diagram. (For example: Size or acres of fort, numbers of buildings, services available, design layout and/or style of architecture at fort, location of fort, materials used to build fort, geographic similarities, and type of troop or soldier posted at fort)

Knowledge Skills

Create a pencil drawing of a frontier fort based on student's prior knowledge Read or view resources for specific information Create Venn diagram comparing/contrasting Fort Scott with one other Kansas Frontier Fort Modify original drawing to create an ideal Kansas Frontier Fort Justify modifications and fort design either through written or oral presentation based on the Venn diagram
