As a result of this activity all students will compare, describe, and sort as they begin to form explanations of the world.

Performance Task

For background knowledge study tall grass prairie flowers and grasses. Take a field trip to a gather prairie flowers and grasses. (Be sure it is not a protected prairie or plant.) In small groups, identify & classify the flowers and grasses found by mounting & labeling flowers and grasses on two separate posters. Display the posters.

Knowledge Skills

Research prairie flowers and grasses. Observe prairie flowers and grasses. Identify, sort and classify prairie flowers and grasses. Work cooperatively in small groups. Produce a finished Informative poster.

Scoring Guide

4 The students will complete the tasks within their cooperative groups. The poster is neat,colorful and easy to read. The flowers are correctly identified. 3 The students needed some help to complete the task. The requirements were met. Classifications are at least 80% correct. 2 The student completes the task with difficulty. The finished product lacks neatness and clarity. Over 30% of the classifications are incorrect. 1 The task in incomplete. The student did not understand the task. The posters are not finished and ready for display.
