Special programs, guest speakers and book signings are scheduled July 2-4

Programs will begin at the "Interpretive Tent" located between the Visitor Center and the British Camp.

Friday, July 2

The Approaching Storm

11:00 a.m.

Painting "Damn the Capitulation"

Artist John Buxton will discuss his painting "Damn the Capitulation" that represents the scene of the surrender at Fort Necessity.

12:00 noon

American Indian Experience in the Seven Years War

Historian Brian Kissler will discuss the "American Indian Experience in the Seven Years War," (which is another name for the French and Indian War).

1:30 p.m.

George Washington Remembers - Video

Premier of George Washington Remembers, Peter Argentine's dramatic nine minute film to accompany the exhibit George Washington Remembers: Reflections on the French & Indian War.

2:00 p.m.

Scholars Panel

Noted French and Indian War authors and scholars will engage the public in a dialogue on the significance of the Battle of Fort Necessity. This free event is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council and the Braddock Road Preservation Association.

Walter Powell

Dr. Powell, President of the Braddock Road Preservation Association,will serve as the moderator of the scholars panel.

Robert Bearor

Mr. Bearor will provide a French perspective. He is the author of "Battle on Snowshoes," "French and Indian War Battlesites: A Controversy," and "Leading by Example, Partisan Fighters and Leaders of New France, Volumes I, II, III."

Andrew Gallup

Mr. Gallup will provide another French perspective. He is the author of "La Marine," " The French Colonial Soldier in Canada 1754-1761," "Memoirs of a French and Indian War Soldier," "The Celeron Expedition on the Ohio River 1749," and "A Sketch of the Virginia Soldier in the Revolution."

 
Steve Brumwell

Dr. Brumwell will provide the British Perspective. He is the author of "Redcoats, The British Soldier and War in the Americas, 1755-1763" and co-author of "Cassell's Companion to 18th Century Britain."

 
Dr. David Dixon

A scholar to provide the American Indian perspective.

Saturday, July 3

Porcupine Quill Demonstration

A presentation of the porcupine quill work of the Northeast Indians by Jack Vargo.

11:00 a.m.

Young George Washington

Bryan Simpers from Colonial Williamsburg will be portraying and speaking as Young George Washington.

12:00 noon

Basketry demonstration

A presentation of the basketwork of Northeast Indians by Donna Vargo.

1:00 p.m.

Roles of Women in New France

Author and re-enactor Maxine Trottier will discus the roles of women in New France.

4:00 p.m.

The Mount Washington Tavern, a museum about life along the National Road in the mid-19th century, will be open during the commemoration.
