A Charming Field for an Encounter

7:00 p.m.
Pittsburgh Symphony performing in the Great Meadow.
Produced by the National Road Heritage Corridor in partnership with the National Park Service.

"Artists in Residence"
Preeminent French & Indian War artists Robert Griffing and John Buxton exhibit their works and discuss upcoming projects. Paintings by these artists include the Fort Necessity pieces "A Charming Field for an Encounter", "The Approaching Storm", and "Damn the Capitulation".

The Approaching Storm

"George Washington Remembers: Reflections on the French and Indian War"
Exhibit featuring an original manuscript wherein George Washington recalls the events of 1754 in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Saturday, July 3

Clash of Cultures

9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
18th century Cultural Demonstrations —
Expert artisans demonstrate historic French, Woodland Indian, and British trades.

Encampment —
Experience the life of 18th century British soldiers in preparation for battle.
9 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Tactical Demonstration in the Great Meadows
Witness the first battle of the French and Indian War at Fort Necessity. Over 500 British, French and Indian reenactors will participate in tactical battle demonstration.

Memorial Service
A solemn tribute to those soldiers and warriors who marched, fought and died in the opening campaigns of the French & Indian War.

The Mount Washington Tavern, a museum about life along the National Road in the mid-19th century, will be open during the commemoration.
