| YARD, JOHN EDMOND: Born in Pennsylvania in 1837, he was appointed a second lieutenant in the 9th Infantry in November 1861. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1863, to captain in 1866, and to major in the 10th Cavalry in 1867. He was assigned to the 20th Infantry in 1870 and was promoted lieutenant colonel of the 24th Infantry in 1879. He served at Fort Davis from June-October 1880 in that capacity. He was promoted to colonel of the 18th Infantry in 1886 and died in 1889. |
