TAYLOR, JOHN GIBSON: Born in Kentucky, he attended the U.S. Military Academy from 1845-1848, but did not graduate. Appointed a second lieutenant in the 8th Infantry in June 1855, he served at Fort Davis from August 1855 to September 1858 and again from November 1860 to February 1861 with Company H of that regiment. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1860 and resigned in June 1861 to join the Confederate States Army as the lieutenant colonel of the Mississippi Volunteers. He was killed in action in June 1862 at the Battle of White Oak Swamp, Virginia.
TEAR, WALLACE: Born in Ohio, he enlisted as a sergeant in the 96th Illinois Infantry in August 1862. He mustered out in November 1863 to accept an appointment as a first lieutenant in the 14th U.S. Colored Infantry. Appointed a second lieutenant in the 40th Infantry in August 1867, he transferred to the 25th Infantry in April 1869. He served at Fort Davis from August 1870 to September 1875 as both a second lieutenant and first lieutenant with Company G of that regiment. He resigned in June 1883.
TESSON, LOUIS STANISLAUS: Born in Missouri, he entered the army in June 1875 as an assistant surgeon and served at Fort Davis from August 1883 to October 1886 in that capacity in the rank of captain. He was promoted to surgeon, with the rank of major, in 1895 and died in June 1901.
THEAKER, HUGH ALBERT: Born in Ohio, he was appointed a first lieutenant in the 16th Infantry in May 1861. He was promoted to captain in 1864, transferring to the 34th Infantry in 1866. He transferred to the 16th Infantry in 1869 and served at Fort Davis from January-March 1881 in command of Company D of the 16th Infantry. He was promoted to major in the 15th Infantry in 1886, to lieutenant colonel of the 14th Infantry in 1891, and to colonel of the 16th Infantry in 1896. He retired in August 1898.
THOMPSON, JAMES KASTER: Born in Iowa in 1862, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1884. He was commissioned a second lieutenant and assigned to the 23rd Infantry. He served at Fort Davis from May 1890 to April 25, 1891 with Company C and as the regiment’s adjutant. He was promoted to first lieutenant on April 27, 1891 and to captain in 1898. He was assigned to the 15th Infantry in 1899 and died in April 1910 on active duty.
THOMPSON, JOHN CHARLES: Born in Maryland in 1846, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1866 and was commissioned a second lieutenant and assigned to the 3rd Cavalry. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1868 and to captain in 1879. He served at Fort Davis from May 1885 to February 1887 in command of Troop F of the 3rd Cavalry. He died while on sick leave due to paralysis in August 1889 at San Antonio, Texas.
THOMPSON, SAMUEL K.: Born in Ohio, he enlisted as a private in the 5th Kansas Cavalry in July 1861. He mustered out in August 1863 to accept an appointment as a second lieutenant in the 54th U.S. Colored Infantry. He was appointed a second lieutenant in the 39th Infantry in October 1867, transferring to the 25th Infantry in April 1869. He served at Fort Davis from August 1870 to April 1871, and again from August 1876 to June 1877 with Company A of that regiment. He was dismissed from the army in June 1877 and died in July 1880.
THURSTON, WALTER ALONZO: Born in Alabama, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1879 and was commissioned a second lieutenant and assigned to the 16th Infantry. He served at Fort Davis from January-February 1881 with Company D of that regiment. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1884, to captain in 1898, and to major with the 29th Infantry in December 1902.
TISDALE, WILLIAM NEWLIN: Born in Pennsylvania in 1834, he was appointed a second lieutenant in the 1st Infantry in October 1861, a first lieutenant in 1863, and a captain in 1869. He served at Fort Davis from March 1881 to July 1882 in command of Company C of that regiment. He retired in April 1895 and died in November 1899 in Wayne, Pennsylvania.
TOLMAN, THOMAS MURRAY: Born in Maine, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1865. He was commissioned a second lieutenant and assigned to the 6th Cavalry. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1866 and to captain in 1867. He transferred to the 1st Infantry in January 1871 and served at Fort Davis from April-November 1881 in command of Company H of the 1st Infantry. He died in December 1883.
TURRILL, HENRY STUART: Born in Connecticut, he entered the army in February 1864 as an assistant surgeon in the 17th Connecticut Infantry, mustering out in July 1865. He was appointed an assistant surgeon in June 1875, and served at Fort Davis from October 1876 to July 1877 in that capacity with the rank of first lieutenant. He was appointed surgeon, with the rank of major, in 1893, and in June of 1902 he was appointed deputy surgeon general with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
TYLER, WILLIAM WALLACE: Born in New York, he enlisted as a private in the 94th New York Infantry in October 1861. He mustered out in May 1862 to accept an appointment as a first lieutenant in the same regiment. Appointed a second lieutenant in the 9th Cavalry in August 1867, he was promoted to first lieutenant in 1871. He served at Fort Davis from February 1872 to April 1875 with Troop I of that regiment. He transferred to the 13th Infantry in 1881 and retired in February 1891 with the rank of captain.
