QUIMBY, HORACE BAXTER: Born in New Hampshire in 1840, he served as a first sergeant in the 9th New Hampshire Infantry from August to November1862. He was appointed a second lieutenant in that regiment in November 1862, mustering out in June 1865. Appointed a second lieutenant in the 39th Infantry in July 1866, he was promoted to first lieutenant in 1867. He transferred to the 25th Infantry in April 1869, and served at Fort Davis as the regiment’s quartermaster and as post quartermaster from May 1872 to August 1877. He died in February 1883 while on active duty at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.
