PARKER, CHARLES: Born in New York, he was appointed a captain in the 71st Illinois Infantry in July 1862, and mustered out in October 1862. He was appointed a captain in the 17th Illinois Cavalry in January 1864, and a major in November of 1865. He was appointed a second lieutenant in the 9th Cavalry in July 1866, a first lieutenant in 1867 and a captain in January 1870. He served at Fort Davis from August 1870 to January 1871 in command of Company B of the 9th Cavalry. He died in January 1890.
PARKER, LEOPOLD OSCAR: Born in Missouri in 1843, he was appointed a second lieutenant in the 4th U.S. Volunteer Infantry in January 1865, mustering out in June 1866. Appointed a second lieutenant in the 1st Infantry in October 1866, he transferred to the 4th Cavalry in 1869. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1870 and to captain in 1879. Transferring back to the 1st Infantry in 1880, he served at Fort Davis with the 1st Infantry from March 1881 to July 1882 in command of Company F. He retired in April 1898 as a major in the 22nd Infantry and died in Virginia in July 1928.
PARTELLO, JOSEPH McDOWELL TRIMBLE: Born in Ohio, he enlisted as a private in the general service in August 1872 and mustered out in May 1878 as a sergeant. Appointed a second lieutenant in the 5th Infantry in September 1879, he was promoted to first lieutenant in 1885 and served at Fort Davis as the first lieutenant of Company I of the 5th Infantry from June 1888 to August 1890. He was promoted to captain in 1898 and transferred to the 23rd Infantry in February 1903. Two months later, he was promoted to major in the 7th Infantry.
PATTERSON, JAMES HILL: Born in Indiana, he served as an enlisted man with the 19th Infantry from July 1862 to May 1865. He was also appointed a second lieutenant and a first lieutenant in the 19th Infantry later that year. He was promoted to captain and transferred to the 28th Infantry in 1866. In 1870, he transferred to the 25th Infantry and served at Fort Davis with the 25th Infantry in command of Company G from February 1871 to August 1873, when he died at the fort.
PAULUS, JACOB: Born in Prussia, he enlisted as a private in the 5th Pennsylvania Infantry in April 1861 mustering out in April 1865 as a sergeant. Appointed a second lieutenant in the 50th Pennsylvania Infantry in April 1865, he mustered out as a captain two months later. He was appointed a second lieutenant with the 18th Infantry in May 1866, transferring to the 27th Infantry that September. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1867 and assigned to the 25th Infantry in July 1869. He was promoted to captain and served at Fort Davis in command of Company G, 25th Infantry, from October 1873 to February 1875. He retired in March 1879 and died in April 1881.
PENDLETON, EDWIN PALMER: Born in Rhode Island, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1879 and was commissioned a second lieutenant and assigned to the 23rd Infantry. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1889 and served at Fort Davis from May 1890 to June 1891 with Company C of the 23rd Infantry. He was promoted to captain in the same regiment in 1898.
PETERS, DEWITT CLINTON: Born in New York, he entered the army as an assistant surgeon in August 1854, but resigned in October 1856. He entered the army again in May 1860 and served at Fort Davis from May 1860 to April 1861 as the post surgeon. He was promoted to surgeon, with the rank of major, in 1866 and retired in December 1875. He died the following year.
PHELPS, FREDERICK ELISHA: Born in Ohio, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1870. He was commissioned a second lieutenant and assigned to the 8th Cavalry. He was promoted to first lieutenant 1879, and served at Fort Davis with Company F of the 8th Cavalry from October 1887 to May 1888. He was promoted to captain in September 1889 and retired in 1891.
PIERCE, FRANCIS EDWIN: Born in New York, he was appointed a captain in the 108th New York Infantry in August 1862, mustering out in May 1865. Appointed the Colonel of the 8th U.S. Veteran Volunteer Infantry in June 1865, he mustered out in March 1866. He was appointed a second lieutenant in the 1st Infantry in May 1866, a first lieutenant in 1867, and a captain in 1880. He served at Fort Davis from July 1881 to February 1882 in command of Company G, 1st Infantry. He died in November 1896.
PITCHER, THOMAS GAMBLE: Born in Indiana, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1845 and was commissioned a brevet second lieutenant in the 5th Infantry. He was promoted to second lieutenant and transferred to the 8th Infantry in September 1846. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1849. He served at Fort Davis from November 1854 to March 1857 with Company G, 8th Infantry. He was promoted to captain in 1858 and to major assigned to the 16th Infantry in 1863. He became the colonel of the 44th Infantry in 1866 and was assigned to the 1st Infantry in 1870. He retired in June 1878 and died in October 1895.
POLLOCK, OTIS WHEELER: Born in Pennsylvania in1833, he was appointed a first lieutenant in the 63rd Ohio Infantry in October 1861, mustering out in July 1865. He was appointed a second lieutenant and a first lieutenant in the 14th Infantry in February 1866. He transferred to the 23rd Infantry in September 1866 and was promoted to captain in 1873. He served at Fort Davis from May 1890 to May 1891 as the commanding officer of Company C, 23rd Infantry. He retired for age in August 1897 as a major in the 24th Infantry and died in February 1916 at San Francisco, California.
PORTER, JOSEPH YATES: Born in Florida, he entered the army in June 1875 as an assistant surgeon and served at Fort Davis in 1883 in that capacity in the grade of captain, but spent much of his time in the field, or at sub-posts. He resigned in August 1889.
POWELL, JUNIUS LEVERT: Born in Virginia, he entered the army as an assistant surgeon in June 1878 and served at Fort Davis from December 1882 to June 1883 in that capacity, with the rank of first lieutenant. He was promoted to surgeon, with the rank of major, in 1897.
PRATT, EDWARD BARTON: Born at Virginia in 1853, he was appointed a second lieutenant in the 23rd Infantry in December 1872. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1878 and to captain in January 1891. He served at Fort Davis from March-May 1891 in command of Company B of the 23rd Infantry. He was promoted to major in 1899 and to lieutenant colonel of the 15th Infantry in 1902. He retired in November 1909, three days after being promoted to brigadier general and died in January 1923 at Washington, D.C.
PRATT, JAMES: Born in Maine, he enlisted as a private in the 127th Illinois Infantry in August 1862. He was appointed a second lieutenant in the 87th U.S. Colored Infantry in October 1863, transferring to the 84th U.S. Colored Infantry in August 1865, and mustering out in March 1866. Appointed a second lieutenant in the 41st Infantry in July 1866, he was promoted to first lieutenant in 1867. Assigned to the 25th Infantry in 1871, he served at Fort Davis from September 1875 to July 1877 as the first lieutenant of Company K of the 25th Infantry. He died in August 1881.
PRINCE, HENRY: Born in Maine, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1835 and was commissioned a brevet second lieutenant in the 4th Infantry. He was promoted to second lieutenant in 1836, to first lieutenant in 1838, and to captain in 1847. Appointed a major and paymaster in May 1855, he served at Fort Davis from December 1856 to May 1857 in that capacity. He retired in December 1879 as a lieutenant colonel and as the Deputy Paymaster General. He died in August 1892.
PURINGTON, GEORGE AUGUSTUS: Born in Ohio in 1838, he served as a first sergeant in the 19th Ohio Infantry from April to August 1861, when he was appointed a captain in the 2nd Ohio Cavalry. He mustered out as a colonel in November 1864. Appointed a captain in the 9th Cavalry in July 1866, he served at Fort Davis with the 9th from July 1867 to May 1868 in command of Company H. He was promoted to major in the 3rd Cavalry in 1883 and to lieutenant colonel of the 3rd Cavalry in 1892. He retired for health reasons in July 1895 and died in May 1896 in Illinois.
