DAVIS, WILLIAM JR.: Born in Indiana in 1838, he was appointed a first lieutenant in the 1st Missouri Cavalry in June 1862 mustering out in September 1865. Appointed a second lieutenant in the 10th Cavalry in August 1867, he was promoted to first lieutenant in 1873 and served with the 10th at Fort Davis from September 1884 to April 1885 with Troop L. He was promoted to captain in 1888 and retired in November 1897. He died in November 1910 at Chillicothe, Ohio.
DeGRAW, CHARLES SMITH: Born in New York, he entered the army in April 1861 as an assistant surgeon in the 8th New York State Militia. He served at Fort Davis as post surgeon, with the rank of captain, from November 1872 to September 1876. He resigned in January 1878 and died in July 1882.
DICKMAN, JOSEPH THEODORE: Born in Ohio in 1857, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1881. He was commissioned a second lieutenant and assigned to the 3rd Cavalry. He served at Fort Davis with Troop F, 3rd Cavalry, from May 1885 to August 1886 and as a first lieutenant with Troop M from August 1886 to October 1887. He was promoted to captain in 1898 and retired after 40 years service in October 1921 with the rank of major general. He died in October 1927 in Washington, D.C.
DODD, GEORGE ALLAN: Born in Pennsylvania in 1852, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1876. He was commissioned a second lieutenant and assigned to the 3rd Cavalry. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1880. He served at Fort Davis as the first lieutenant of Company D of the 3rd from May 1885 to July 1885, and as captain of Company F from February 1891 to May 1891. He was promoted to major in the 14th Cavalry in 1901 and transferred to the 13th Cavalry in 1902. He retired a brigadier general in 1916 and died in Orlando, Florida in June 1925.
DODGE, CHARLES, JR.: Born in Washington, D.C., he enlisted for General Services in June 1875 and was mustered out as a sergeant in October 1878 to accept an appointed as a second lieutenant in the 24th Infantry. He served at Fort Davis from June to October 1880 with Company H, 24th Infantry. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1883 and a captain in 1895. He died in July 1898.
DODGE, RICHARD IRVING: Born in North Carolina, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1848 and was appointed to the 8th Infantry. He served at Fort Davis with the 8th Infantry from October 1854 to October 1855 as a second lieutenant with Company G and then as the first lieutenant of Company B. He was promoted to captain in 1861 and major in the 12th Infantry in 1864. He became the lieutenant colonel of the 23rd Infantry in 1873 and colonel and aide-de-camp to General Sherman in 1881. He was appointed the colonel of the 11th Infantry in 1882. He retired in 1891 and died in June 1895.
DOUGHERTY, WILLIAM EDGEWORTH: Born in Ireland in 1841, he enlisted as a private in the 1st Infantry in April 1860 and held the rank of first sergeant when discharged in March 1863 to accept an appointment as a second lieutenant in the same regiment. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1865 and to captain in 1878. He served at Fort Davis in command of Company B, 1st Infantry, from January 1882 to May 1882. He was promoted to major in 1898, to lieutenant colonel in 1899, and to colonel of the 8th Infantry in 1901. He retired a brigadier general in January 1904 and died in July 1915 in Oakland, California.
DOUGLASS, HENRY: Born in New York, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1852 and was appointed to the 7th Infantry. He transferred to the 8th Infantry in 1853 and served with the 8th at Fort Davis from October 1854 to May 1855 as a second lieutenant of Company D. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1856, to captain in the 18th Infantry in 1861 and to major in the 3rd Infantry in 1866. He retired in March 1891 as the colonel of the 10th Infantry and died in June 1892.
DREW, GEORGE AUGUSTUS: Born in Michigan in1832, he was appointed a captain in the 6th Michigan Cavalry in October 1862. He mustered out in October 1865 and was appointed a second lieutenant in the 10th Infantry in May 1866. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1868. He was assigned to the 3rd Cavalry in 1870 and promoted to captain in 1878. He served with the 3rd at Fort Davis from May 1885 to February 1886 in command of Company I. He retired in March 1896 and died in July 1921 in Highland Park, Illinois.
DUCAT, ARTHUR CHARLES JR.: Born in Illinois in 1856, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1879. He was commissioned a second lieutenant and assigned to the 11th Infantry. He transferred to the 3rd Cavalry in September 1879. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1883 and served at Fort Davis from August 1885 to March 1887 with Troop L, 3rd Cavalry. He transferred to the 24th Infantry effective February 1887. He was promoted to captain in 1897 and to major in the 7th Infantry in 1902. He was promoted to colonel in 1912 and died in March 1913 in New York City while on recruiting duty.
DUFF, ROBERT JOHN: Born in Pennsylvania, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1883. He was commissioned a second lieutenant and assigned to the 8th Cavalry. He served at Fort Davis from December1887 to May 1888 with Troop D, 8th Cavalry. He was promoted to first lieutenant with the 6th Cavalry in February 1891, transferring back to the 8th Cavalry in April 1891. He was promoted to captain in the 5th Cavalry in March 1899, transferring back again to the 8th Cavalry in May 1899.
DUGAN, THOMAS BUCHANAN: Born in Maryland in 1858, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1882. He was commissioned a second lieutenant and assigned to the 3rd Cavalry. He served at Fort Davis with Troop M, 3rd Cavalry, from July 1886 to October 1887. He was promoted to first lieutenant in the 6th Cavalry in 1891 and to captain in the 5th Cavalry in 1899. He was promoted to brigadier general in 1917. He retired in July 1922 and died April 1940 at Washington, D.C.
DUNNING, SAMUEL WADSWORTH: Born in New York, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1880. He was commissioned a second lieutenant and assigned to the 16th Infantry. He served with Troop K of the 16th at Fort Davis from May 1882 to May 1885. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1885, to captain in 1898, and to major in the 29th Infantry in 1903.
DYE, WILLIAM McENTIRE: Born in Pennsylvania, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1853 and was appointed to the 4th Infantry. He transferred to the 8th Infantry in November 1854. He served at Fort Davis with the 8th from April 1855 to July 1860 as a second lieutenant with Company C and then as the first lieutenant of Company F. Appointed a colonel in the 20th Iowa Infantry in August 1862, he was mustered out of volunteer service in July 1865. In 1866, he was appointed a major with the 4th Infantry. He was discharged at his request in September 1870 and died in November 1899.
DYER, SHUBIEL ALLEN: Born in Arkansas, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the 23rd Infantry in August 1876. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1885 and served with the 23rd at Fort Davis from May 1890 to May 1891with Company D. He died in April 1894.
