Permits

Passengers on ferry boat bask in the glow of a sunset with pink puffy clouds, while small motor boats go in both directions on the sunset-dappled Great South Bay.

Special events or gatherings require prior application and approval through a Special Use Permit.

Special Permits Are Required For a Variety of Activities in the Park

In order to monitor and regulate the use of the park while still conserving the scenery, natural and historic objects, and wildlife within park boundaries, all National Park Service areas require special use permits for certain activities.

Fire Island National Seashore's policy is to accommodate requests for special use permits when and where possible, while adhering to this mandate. Therefore, primary consideration will be given to potential resource damage and to anticipated disruption of normal public use.

Fire Island National Seashore generally issues permits for the following activities:

Public Gatherings Special Events and Activities
Filming/Photography Oversand Vehicle Operation
Scientific Research & Collections Wilderness Camping
