Hiker among dunes in wilderness area, dressed in light-colored long pants and long-sleeved shirt, and hat.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Wilderness Act of 1964, a guided walk and introduction to the Otis Pike Fire Island High Dunes Wilderness was conducted on Friday, September 3, 2004.

A 3-day/2-night 21-mile hike along Fire Island National Seashore's ocean beach was planned for September 7-9, 2004.

A commemoration of the establishment of Fire Island National Seashore was held at the Ocean Beach Community House on the park's 40th anniversary, September 11, 2004, from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
