| Boating and Canoeing
Boating is very popular on the Great South Bay. You can see ferries, water taxis, power boats, sailboats, clam and oyster boats, fishing boats, personal watercraft, with kayaks and canoes found generally closer to the shores. There are public marinas operated by National Park Service concessioners at Watch Hill and Sailors Haven. Please follow all boating regulations. Be alert and navigate with caution in all waters, especially in marinas and marked channels. Always wear a Coast Guard approved lifejacket when boating or on the water. Children on docks and boats should always wear lifebelts or jackets. At Watch Hill, you can join a ranger-guided interpretive canoe tour. Canoes, life jackets, and paddles are all provided. Reservations are required. Many of the communities have their own marinas and provide some dock slips for recreational boaters. For information on public marinas in the communities, contact the Fire Island Tourism Bureau or the individual community you wish to visit. Return to Fire Island Home Page |
