Question: How did she support herself? Did ER get paid for her writings and her speeches?

Answer:

[picture: Eleanor Roosevelt, 1956]Eleanor Roosevelt had two sources of income: interest on the trust her parents left her and fees she received as a columnist, lecturer, author, and radio host. Although she was eligible to receive FDR=s pension, she politely refused it. Of all the benefits to which she was entitled as the former first lady, she only accepted the franking privilege, which allowed her to use her signature instead of postage to send mail.
