The Roosevelt estate, Springwood
is preserved as the life-long home and memorial gravesite of Franklin
Delano Roosevelt, the only four-term American President and one of
the pivotal figures of the 20th Century. Deeded to the Nation upon
his death, the estate's cultural landscape and viewshed so influenced

The Frederick W. Vanderbilt estate,
Hyde Park, symbolized the growing economic, social,
and political clout of America in the years after the Civil War, a
time when financiers and industrialists lived in a style which consciously
emulated European pomp. The estate is also one of the earliest horticultural
endeavors in the United Sates and remains a significant example of
the 19th Century landscape design in the picturesque style. |
