Forest Service Logo Graphic The United States Forest Service was created in 1905 to manage that portion of the public domain that Congress had designated as Forest Reserve. As steward for 194 million acres of some of the most beautiful and natural resource-rich lands in the United States its goal is to balance the public lands needs and expectations of the American people with productive ecosystems for future generations.
