The Eisenhower family, Abilene Kansas, 1902
Dwight D. Eisenhower (far left) was born on October 14, 1890 in Denison, Texas. The following year his family moved to Abilene, Kansas which would remain his home until leaving to attend West Point in 1911. The Eisenhowers were of modest means. The father, David, worked in a creamery after the general store he owned went bankrupt. Dwight shared a small bedroom with two of his brothers. All six Eisenhower brothers grew up to be very successful. |
