Writing Questions

Strand: Language Arts
Grade Level: 2 - 3
Duration: 20 minutes
Location: classroom
Objective: The students will be able to write 3 - 5 questions to ask the Park Ranger that show a general knowledge of the Woodland Culture and the mounds they constructed.
Materials: paper
pencil
Vocabulary: Woodland Culture
burial mounds
Procedure:
  1. Discuss with the students the upcoming field trip to Effigy Mounds.  See background information and previsit activities
  2. Tell them to think about the information they have learned so far and then write 3 - 5 good questions to ask the Park Ranger.
  3. Give them a predetermined amount of time to write
  4. Have them share some of their questions
  5. When they return from the field trip, have them write answers to their questions
