Thank You Card

Strand: Art and Language Arts
Grade Level: 1 - 3
Duration: 15 minutes
Location: classroom
Objective: The students will be able to neatly cut and write for a thank you card to show appreciation for the field trip
Materials: large piece of construction paper (any color)
1/4 pieces of construction paper (assorted colors)
scissors
pen
pencil
Optional:  patterns to trace mound shapes
Vocabulary: appreciation

Procedure:
  1. Use the large piece of construction paper to serve as the actual card.  On this paper write:  Thank You for the Tour of the Effigy Mounds - or some other nice greeting.
  2. On the 1/4 sheets of paper, have the children draw or trace a mound shape and cut it out.  (Make sure all mound shapes are used.)
  3. Have the children neatly write their first names on their mound using the pen
  4. Have them glue the mound onto the large piece of paper you have created
