| Before taking a field trip to Effigy Mounds National
Monument, explain to students that they will be responsible for shooting 3 - 5 minute
videos that include 5 examples of things they learned from the visit. Selected
examples should exhibit the highest quality or work and level of learning achieved by each
student. Students may work in groups if permitted by the teacher. Students are
responsible for taking notes, drawing sketches, etc. during the field trip, as well as
choosing the items on their videos.
Set a due date for the completed videos. Have students complete scripts and/or
story boards for your approval before shooting their videos. Encourage unique and
innovative approaches.
Create a schedule for use of the school camcorder in necessary. Encourage
students to use home camcorders where available. Share completed videos with the
class over a period of several days.
Note: Encourage students to shoot segments of their videos as they complete
portions of the unit rather than waiting until the end.
Consider placing the camcorder (and tripod, if used) in a location outside the
classroom, such as a multi-purpose room, staffed by a parent or aide. Students may
leave your classroom to work there for specified amounts of time. |
