| Bring in examples of travel brochures. Ask students
"Why would someone like to visit these places? What draws people there?"
Discuss what makes the brochures interesting and exciting. Then brainstorm
and list on the board things that should be included in a travel brochure such as climate,
historical sites, and points of interest. Next discuss what would have attracted other
prehistoric people to the moundbuilders culture. List these also on the board.
Include things such as available food and water, shelter, and climate.
Discuss how having a brochure which looks "appealing" would encourage others
to go to an area. Students should then begin designing a three sectioned brochure
that could have been used to attract prehistoric people to the Effigy Mound area.
Remind students to include enough pertinent information so that anyone using the brochure
could have made an informed decision about whether or not to relocate to the area.
Students can illustrate their brochures with hand drawings, computer graphics, or hand
drawn illustrations using a software program. |
