Years of exposure to varying temperatures and humidity can permanently degrade Edison artifacts put on public display in the Laboratory buildings. To protect these historical objects, and to make a greater number of them accessible to visitors, the restoration and remodeling of Edison National Historic Site includes the installation of a Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system.

The original Laboratories Power House, which had been serving as the Visitor's Center before the construction, will now revert as a space for mechanical support equipment, including HVAC chillers and evaporators.

Contractor teams are installing ductwork throughout the Main Laboratory Building (Building 5).

Smaller HVAC installations will provide climate control to the other lab buildings.
