Laboratory Elevator installation

Click the arrows to navigate through the slide show.

The renovation and restoration work at Edison National Historic Site includes the installation of an elevator to provide public access to the second and third floors of Building 5, the main laboratory building.

The foundation and mechanical equipment for the elevator will be located in the Powerhouse (Building 6). A metal and glass structure one the east side of Building 5 will house the elevator shaft.

The elevator will open major portions of the Edison National Historic Site to visitors that have been previously closed due to safety concerns. In addition to allowing you to see more of Edison's "Invention Factory," the additional space will allow the display of many more of the 400,000 objects in the Edison NHS collection.
