Highlights
President Theodore Roosevelt established Devils Tower National Monument on September 24, 1906. The spectacular rock formation known as Devils Tower and the surrounding countryside, home to a myriad of plant and animal life, attract visitors from around the world. Climbers test their skills on vertical rock walls. Visitors delight in the beauty of the area and enjoy the activites offered at the monument. American Indians consider the area sacred, a place for prayer and renewal.

  • Use these pages to help plan your visit to Devils Tower National Monument.

  • If you are planning to climb Devils Tower, and about 4,000 people did in 1998, be sure to check the climbing section.

  • Devils Tower National Monument is rich in natural and cultural history. Take the time to study what is behind the scenery.

  • Stop off at the Devils Tower Natural History Association Bookstore. Here you will find a collection of books, posters, and videos devoted to our cultural and natural resources, plus a special section devoted to climbing.

  • The Bearlodge Writers, the Devils Tower Natural History Association, and Devils Tower National Monument co-sponsor a Writer’s Residency Program at the Tower each fall.
