The Wright Cycle Company Building
From 1895 until 1897, the Wrights combined both their printing and bicycle businesses in one location. The fourth of five bicycle shops, the Wright Cycle Company is the only one still in its original location.

Interpretive Assistant

May 1 to September 30
Primary period of need is May 1 to September 30, but opporunties extend year round. Peak need is June 15 to August 15.

Duties
Help connect visitors with meanings of resource. Assist ranger with operation of visitor center, including: greet visitors; provide information/ orientation; operate radios; complete Eastern National sales; collect entrance fees; maintain appearance of visitor center; stock brochures and sales items; find answers to complex questions, research and/or refer visitors to correct source; record visitation statistics; observe and report unsafe conditions, resource damage, problems, to appropriate ranger. Provide First Aid/CPR when needed and maintain First Aid/CPR certification. Keep abreast of current resource issues and maintain knowledge of park and its resources. Wear NPS Volunteer uniform properly. Ability to interpret historical research.

Skills
Verbal, nonverbal, and listening skills. Ability to prioritize / multitask. Ability to handle conflict / stressful situations. Ability to learn First Aid / CPR. Ability to work independently. Knowledge of customer service duties / responsibilities. Must be self-directed/flexible, reliable, punctual, committed, and enthusiastic. Enjoy working with people.

Compensation
Monetary compensation depends on committment of individual. Some compensation for out-of-pocket expenses while performing duties may be available. Opportunity for training as available may include interpretation, visitor services, research, and first aid.

About the Park
Dayton Aviation Hertiage NHP is experiencing an exciting time in its development with expanding facilities and services, not to mention the historic Centennial of Flight. Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park is located in urban Dayton, Ohio. The park is dedicated to the stories of Wilbur and Orville Wright and Paul Laurence Dunbar. National Park Service-operated facilities include two interpretive centers. The Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center and Aviation Trail Visitor Center and Museum, and the Wright Cycle Company building, form the west Dayton hub concentrating on the life and times of the Wright brothers and Paul Laurence Dunbar. The cycle shop is the only location of the brothers’ cycle business in its original location. The Huffman Prairie Flying Field Interpretive Center is in the east portal of the park, emphasizing the work of the brothers at nearby Huffman Prairie Flying Field and the role of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in the advancement of aviation technology and development.
