Employment

The National Park Service has many professional, volunteer, and trade opportunities across the country. From parks to regional offices, the Park Service employs over 20,000 individuals (permanent/temp) and receives additional support from 90,000 volunteers.

All positions are filled in accordance with Office of Personnel Management (Civil Service) regulations. Normally, a person seeking an initial appointment to a permanent position must acquire eligibility on an appropriate Office of Personnel Management (OPM) register. Although you will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, political affiliation, or other nonmerit factors, you must be a United States citizen. For certain jobs there may be age and physical qualifications. Generally, one must be 18 years old (some positions require age 21).
