NPS Aviation Facts
The Wright brothers ushered in a new age. They were already accomplished inventors, printers, and bicycle manufacturers prior to their greatest achievement. As their father remarked to Wilbur, "You and Orville are
secure of a place with Fulton and Morse and Franklin in the temple of fame, Conquerors of the Air." Bishop Milton Wright to Wilbur Wright, September 9, 1908.
The theme of aviation is interpreted at a significant number of National Park Service units. Twenty other sites are currently listed along with Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park and Wright Brothers National Memorial for aviation-related achievements.
