Department of Special Collections and Archives
The Wright State University Libraries' Department of Special Collections and Archives administers collections at both the Paul Laurence Dunbar Library and the Fordham Health Sciences Library. Dunbar Library's emphasis on aviation history and Fordham Library's emphasis on aerospace medicine and human factors engineering combine to make Wright State a nationally known repository for the documentation of some of the twentieth century's most dramatic technologies. The Paul Laurence Dunbar Library's focus on early aeronautics stems naturally from the university being a living memorial to Orville and Wilbur Wright, the two Dayton brothers who invented powered flight at the turn of the century. In 1975, WSU was chosen as the repository for the Wright Brothers Collection which comprises over 6,000 items and is one of the most complete records of the Wrights' life and work.
